By-Laws - as approved November 4, 2020

ARTICLE I

This association shall be named the Bretton Woods Women’s Golf Association (BWWGA).


Article II

The objective of the BWWGA shall be the promotion of good fellowship and sportsmanship among its members, interest in golf among women, and the protection of the interest of its members.


Article III

Membership dues shall be paid annually to the BWWGA. First-year membership is complimentary. The membership term shall run from November 1 to October 31 of the following year. New members are welcome and encouraged to join at any time. Upon reaching the age of 80, members will receive complimentary membership in the BWWGA in perpetuity.


Article IV

Government: Paying due regard to the voting members, the BWWGA committee shall make all decisions incidental to Article II above. In particular, the committee is hereby authorized to exercise all powers of the BWWGA, except the power to dissolve the BWWGA. Subject to the by-laws, the members of the BWWGA shall be entitled, at their members’ meeting, to advise the committee on the policies to be followed by the BWWGA and to amend the by-laws. Decisions of the members shall be made by the majority of members present and voting. And, unless a different majority is specified, a simple majority shall be sufficient. In case of a tie, the chairwoman of the meeting shall cast the deciding vote.


Article V

Committee: There will be a minimum of five women on the BWWGA committee. Committee members shall serve a three-year term. The terms of three members will terminate each year in order to ensure continuity of the committee. Members may serve two consecutive terms (a total of six years) before retiring from the committee. Retiring committee members shall be eligible for service on the committee after an interval of one year.

During October of each year, the sitting committee will call for interested persons to serve on the following year’s committee. Committee positions will be chosen from applicants by sitting committee members. Continuing and new committee members will initially meet in December.


Article VI

The committee will include: a chairwoman, secretary, treasurer, communication manager, tournament director, hospitality liaison, and handbook manager. All must be members of the BWWGA.


Article VII

The chairwoman shall have general management of the BWWGA. She shall preside at all meetings and make reports on any matter that may be of importance to the BWWGA. The chairwoman shall work in conjunction with the committee and be guided by its wishes.


Article VIII

In the event of the chairwoman’s inability to serve, the committee will designate a replacement from within.


Article IX

The secretary shall keep records of all meetings.


Article X

The treasurer shall establish a bank account in the name of “Bretton Woods Women’s Golf Association,” keep an accurate account of all BWWGA funds, and be prepared to present, at any meeting, a written account of the financial status of the BWWGA.


Article XI

The tournament coordinator shall schedule and organize BWWGA tournaments in liaison with the golf pro shop.


Article XII

The handbook manager will assemble and facilitate the publishing of the handbook, which will include a list of BWWGA committee members, a calendar of events and a description of their formats, and a list of members and their contact information.


Article XIII

The communication manager shall send communications to the membership announcing upcoming events and providing general information pertinent to the membership.

Article XIV

The hospitality liaison shall work in coordination with the Bretton Woods Recreation Center restaurant staff to plan and select menus for BWWGA events, secure dining room availability, designate table arrangements, and procure necessary equipment to facilitate events.


Article XV

Revisions to the by-laws should be submitted to the chairwoman in writing and will be approved by a majority vote of members attending the general meeting.


Article XVI

There will be at least one general meeting each year, to be held in November, at which new members will be announced, reports will be presented, and amendments, if any, to the by-laws confirmed. Should circumstances warrant, an additional general meeting will be convened by the chairwoman.
